The first vaccines for COVID-19 began shipping across the United States over the weekend and will be distributed to millions over the coming months. During that time, local policymakers will need to make sure that the vaccine is reaching those who need it most and continue suppressing spread among those not yet vaccinated. A new study published in Nature Medicine features two tools that can help—The COVID-19 Risk Calculator, and the COVID-19 Mapping Tool.

Researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health developed the COVID-19 Mortality Risk Calculator to help people understand their risk of dying from COVID-19 based on where they live, along with their socioeconomic information and certain health conditions.

Using data from the risk calculator, PolicyMap developed COVID-19 Risk Maps to help policymakers identify neighborhoods with populations at the highest risk of death due to COVID-19.
