Retail-based healthcare at Health Data Initiative Forum

PolicyMap has been invited to present at the second annual Health Data Initiative (HDI) Forum, which will be held June 9, 2011 at the Natcher Center of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. The purpose of the forum is to explore how the public use of health data in innovations and applications can improve health, and the order of the day are fast-paced presentations and Q&As.

PMapper Katie Nelson will be speaking during an interactive apps demonstration, exploring the emergence of retail-based healthcare clinics throughout the country. The presentation will explore the characteristics of communities seeing the growth of these clinics, and we’ll show how PolicyMap can be used to ask policy questions about the opportunities to use retail-clinics to expand health-care to the underserved.

PolicyMap has built a new health widget using data that will be featured in the presentation. In addition to data previously available such as Medically Underserved Areas (MUAs), uninsured populations, and hospital and nursing home locations, we have added several new datasets to our Health tab including:

  • Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs)
  • Nurse-practitioner led clinics
  • Retail-based health clinics
