Description:
PolicyMap calculated predominant race and ethnicity using Census’ American Community Survey estimates. For predominant racial or ethnic group, the measures are calculated using the ethnic category Hispanic or Latino, and the following seven Non-Hispanic Census racial groups reported alone: White, Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, Some Other Race, and Two or More Races (Table B03002). For predominant race, PolicyMap used 7 non-overlapping racial categories: White, African American, American Indian or Alaska native, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, some other race, and two or more races (Table B02001).
At PolicyMap, predominance is determined by ranking the percentage of race and/or ethnicity groups within a given geography; the category with the higher percentage is reported as predominant. Ties are displayed randomly but the underlying race/ethnicity percentages are shown for additional clarification.
