Description:

PolicyMap calculated the median age percentile rank using Census’ American Community Survey estimates to determine the percentile ranking of the median age of a geography compared to all other geographies at the same level. Data are sourced from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates (Table B01002). Percentile rankings are determined by comparing the median age of the population compared to all other geographies at the same level. Therefore, a percentile ranking of 20 indicates that the median age of the geography is lower than 80% of all other geographies at the same level. However, a percentile rank of 20 does not indicate that the median age of the geography is 20 years old. Generally, higher percentile rankings indicate that an older population lives in the geography, while lower percentile rankings signify a younger population.
