Join PolicyMap’s Office Hours for a special session on one of the most pressing challenges facing American cities: the housing shortage.

Mark Zandi, Chief Economist at Moody’s Analytics, opens with a high-level look at the economics behind the housing crisis — how we got here, and where we stand today. We’ll follow that with a look at a new methodology delivering census-tract-level data that pinpoints exactly where housing is needed most in 350 cities across the US.

Then, we go local. Philadelphia offers a real-world example of what’s possible with this kind of data: the City’s housing plan — one of the most ambitious in the country at $2 billion and 30,000 units — started with tract-level housing gap analysis. We’ll break down how that analysis helped the City pinpoint critical shortages in workforce rental housing and turn that insight into real policy action.

We’ll also touch on why making this data AI-ready is key to giving municipalities across the US a foundation for data-driven strategies going forward.

Hosted by Maggie McCullough, Founder and CEO of PolicyMap, this interactive session brings together city leaders, economists, and housing experts to show how census-tract-level data can guide investment decisions and direct housing production where it’s needed most.

Panelists:

  • Mark Zandi, Chief Economist, Moody’s Analytics
  • Angela D. Brooks, Chief Housing and Urban Development Officer, City of Philadelphia
  • Ira Goldstein, Founder, IJG Urban Advisors, LLC
